A BMI of 22.0 counts as normal weight. The range with the lowest reported disease risk. This scale follows the WHO international classification; Asian and Pacific guidelines put the lines lower, at 23 for overweight and 25 for obesity.

The weight range that puts a BMI of 18.5–24.9 at 165cm. Your 60kg sits inside it.

253 of 253

Idols on record in girl groups whose profile BMI comes out below yours. Every profile on record lands below it.

46.5 kg

The mean profile weight of the 157 idols within 3cm of 165cm. At your height that would be a BMI of 17.1.

For reference, matching Yooa’s BMI of 19.5 at 165cm would mean 53.1kg. Bear in mind that profile weights are often the figures issued around debut and mostly sit in the underweight range, so the number worth aiming at is the healthy weight range above.

Before you go

This page is here to compare numbers for fun. It is not the place that decides what a healthy body looks like.

Don’t treat an idol’s profile weight as a target. Most of the profiles collected here fall below BMI 18.5, which is underweight. Staying there costs muscle mass and bone density, and it shows up as irregular periods, hair loss, a weaker immune response and delayed growth. If you want to change your weight substantially, work it out with a doctor or a dietitian rather than on your own.

What BMI misses

BMI works from two numbers and nothing else. It cannot separate muscle from fat, and it has no idea where on the body that fat sits. Someone who trains hard reads higher than they are; someone carrying little muscle reads lower. Waist circumference (over 94cm for men, over 80cm for women, by WHO guidance) and a body composition test make the picture far more accurate.

The formula

BMI = weight in kg ÷ height in m². At 165cm, a normal BMI of 18.5–24.9 means anywhere from 50.4kg to 67.8kg. Put your own height into the calculator and it shows the range for you.

If you are still growing

Adult ranges do not transfer to anyone under 18. The same BMI means something quite different at different ages, so read it as a percentile on the WHO or CDC growth charts instead.

Questions people ask

How is BMI calculated?

Divide weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. At 165cm and 60kg that is 60 ÷ (1.65 × 1.65) = 22.0. This calculator uses the same formula.

Where do the idol height and weight figures come from?

Two places: a public K-pop idol profile dataset covering 522 idols, plus 76 more whose weight the dataset left blank and which were filled in from published profiles. Both trace back to agency profiles issued around debut or to fan-community compilations, so many were never updated, and weights in particular tend to be recorded low.

Why do almost all the idol BMIs come out underweight?

These are bodies managed for stage costumes and camera, and the profile numbers themselves are often written low. An idol's profile BMI is not a benchmark for a healthy weight.

What counts as a normal BMI?

By the WHO international classification, 18.5 up to 25 is normal weight, 25 and over is overweight, and 30 and over is obesity. Asian and Pacific guidelines, South Korea's included, put those lines lower — overweight from 23 and obesity from 25 — because health risks appear at a lower BMI in these populations.

Does BMI tell me everything about my body?

No. BMI uses only height and weight, so it cannot separate muscle from fat or tell where fat sits on the body. People who train a lot read higher than they are; people carrying little muscle read lower.

Do these ranges apply to teenagers?

They do not. Under 18, BMI has to be read against age- and sex-specific growth charts as a percentile. The ranges shown here are the adult ones.
